I am going to pierce my lip myself?

I have pierced my lip myself but the first time j didn't have the right needle andbi didn't have a clamp or numbing cream but this time I have all these things and I was wondering if I should put the numbing cream on and then the heat pack or the heat pack the the numbing cream (heat pack softens ip the tissue)
